The success of the Tiggo 4 Pro and the rapid growth in customer and dealer demand has prompted Chery South Africa to expedite the launch of its flagship Tiggo 8 Pro range.
“The success of the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has surprised our dealer network, who reports increasing interest and sales of all models in the range.
Chery have also welcomed five more dealers since the introduction of the Tiggo 4 Pro, bringing their dealer network to 42 dealerships across South Africa, where customers can test drive and purchase their new Chery.
Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa says that it has received a commitment from Chery’s global head office for additional production of both the Tiggo 4 Pro and the new Tiggo 8 Pro, with the first Tiggo 8 Pro models already tested and homologated for the South African market.
“We are extremely excited about the new Tiggo 8 Pro. While the Tiggo 4 Pro and our 1-million-kilometre mechanical warranty has done a lot to demonstrate the quality and technology available in Chery vehicles, the Tiggo 8 Pro will simply blow people away,” says Liu.
Two models of the Tiggo 8 Pro will be available at launch. Both will be fitted with Chery’s award-winning 1.6 TGDI petrol-engine, which used advanced thermal management, adaptive turbo charging and direct injection to deliver 136 kW and a strong 290 Nm of torque.
Both models will also offer industry-leading levels of luxury and technology, a hallmark of all Chery products. This includes features such as Around View Monitor, an 8-speaker SONY sound system, two high definition TFT displays (with a third in the flagship model) and dual-zone climate control with pharmaceutical grade N95 air filtration.
All models will further offer 7 seats as standard, setting another benchmark it its class.
The Tiggo 8 Pro is perhaps Chery’s most awarded vehicle to date. It has won numerous awards in China and elsewhere, including the China Annual Innovation Award in 2020, the National Car of the Year in 2020 (with a voting margin of more than 1 million votes).
It was also voted the Most High-Tech SUV in the Russian 2021 SUV of the Year Awards, where Chery has grown rapidly to become a Top 10 best-selling brand.
Chery has also won the China Heart Award for domestically developed and manufactured engines for its 1.6 TGDI-engine in 2019, with high praise for the engine’s thermal efficiency, performance and low fuel consumption.
We’ll share specifics on the model range and pricing as soon as those details become available to us.

The new OMODA 5 was unveiled at Auto Guangzhou 2021. It introduces a new design language for Chery – Art in Motion. Art in Motion symbolises Chery’s ambition to create vehicles that successfully integrate stunning design, leading technology and a rewarding driving experience.
“There are few other industries that have the opportunity to combine beautiful design and mechanical performance like the automotive industry,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager, Chery South Africa.
“Unfortunately, motorists who have been enticed by beautiful and futuristic designs from motor shows are left with very watered-down designs when these designs reach the showroom floor. We are changing that with models like the OMODA 5.”
As such, the OMODA 5 has extremely smooth lines that appear almost liquid, while also introducing a few design firsts to the crossover segment.
These design firsts include a smart play between light and shadow in the flowing and integrated diamond matrix grille that is seamlessly integrated into the front design and that flows almost imperceptibly to the split front LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights.
The same applies to the glasshouse, where the smooth integration between the front windscreen and glossy A-pillars creates a borderless design that is repeated on the side windows and at the rear.
The flowing lines continue unbroken across the side profile and terminate in two distinct rear wings, one at the edge of the roofline and another that integrates the arrow-shaped rear lights. These were designed to lead the eye beyond the vehicle itself and create a promise of movement and an invitation to the driver to get behind the wheel.
In another page from Chery’s book on Art in Motion is the tasteful and unique use of colour blocking on the exterior design.
A contrasting or complementary second colour is used to highlight some of the most characterful lines to create a bit of visual tension with the otherwise flowing design. This can be seen in the strong line below the doors, in the highlights on the slim side mirrors, in the wheels and, depending on the model, in the flowing roofline and uppermost spoiler.
The OMODA 5’s platform also meets global 5-star safety ratings, proving that performance and adaptability do not have to come at the expense of safety or structural integrity.
“It is very heartening to know that the OMODA 5, like every other new Chery, will be future-proof and that we can support every type of customer requirement, whether that is for powerful and frugal petrol and diesel engines or for quiet and comfortable electric or other propulsion systems,” says Liu.The Chery

Chery South Africa is giving South African motorists a million reasons to choose its modern and stylish SUVs.
The company recently launched its Tiggo 4 Pro with an astonishing 10-year or 1-million-kilometre engine warranty. This beats the best industry warranties by 40%.
The warranty has two elements. A standard 5-year / 150 000 km factory warranty applies to all new Tiggo 4 Pro models sold. This warranty remains with the vehicle. The second, a free extension for another 5 years and a massive 850 000 km focussed on the engine, is added automatically at the end of the first warranty, provided that the vehicle is still owned by the original owner.
As is the standard practice throughout the industry, the warranty requires the service and repair of the vehicle by Chery Dealerships, within Chery standards and using original Chery parts and components.
Added to this industry leading warranty, Chery recently announced its agreement with the Automobile Association of South Africa to provide roadside assistance and support for five years unlimited kilometres. This means that Chery owners can expect roadside support – with services ranging from help with flat tyres or batteries to safe overnight vehicle storage in case of an accident.
In the past decade, Chery has completely reinvented itself as a global design, engineering and manufacturing powerhouse.
“Modern Chery vehicles represent the best in terms of technology and performance while meeting CNCAP five-star safety standards,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
At the same time, explains Liu, Chery has partnered with industry leaders like Aisin, Getrag, Bosch and Schaeffler to perfect its internal combustion, hybrid and all-electric powertrains. All this forms part of Chery’s 457 plan, which will see Chery focus on four new energy product platforms, five universal subsystems and seven core technologies, including all types of propulsion.
“We have invested heavily in our own capabilities and now employ over 5 500 people in our Research and Development department that now develops everything from traditional petrol engines to all-electric powertrains, hydrogen systems and even aeronautical engines.
“It is with this in mind that we are supremely confident in offering this decade-long, 1-million-kilometre engine warranty,” says Liu.
Chery has partnered with 30 dealers across South Africa and will soon expand its partnership to more dealers with the aim of offering complete coverage of all the major towns and cities. This will ensure that Chery owners have easy access to Chery technical specialists for services and warranty support.
“We hope the 1-million-kilometre engine warranty will set the benchmark and that our service and parts support through our dealer network will seal the deal. There is now no reason at all not to test drive a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro,” says Liu.

Chery South Africa has appointed 30 new vehicle dealers across the country, covering every province and metro.
The new Chery dealers will offer a full range of sales and support services, including vehicle finance from Chery Financial Services (a new finance alliance with WesBank) and roadside assistance, following a recently concluded agreement with the Automobile Association.
The network will stretch as far north as Louis Trichardt and cover towns and cities like Bloemfontein, Welkom, Klerksdorp, Middelburg, East London and Gqeberha from the onset.
Major cities like Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town will have several new Chery dealers at launch and other growing towns and cities like Polokwane and Mbombela will follow soon after the initial launch.
“We were heartened by the number of dealer applications we received from across the dealer group spectrum and from automotive entrepreneurs.
Our priority was selecting dealers with the necessary infrastructure and capacity to rightfully sell and service Chery vehicles from day one,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
“While we are starting with 30 operational Chery dealers, we will expand quickly to make sure that no South African motorist is far away from a local and trusted Chery dealer. We believe that Chery adds an exciting new dimension to our range of affordable and luxury brands.
We are investing heavily in the training and support of our new dealer network to make sure that our dealer principals, their sales and service staff and their premises represent the modern Chery brand and our ‘Fun to Drive’ ethos”, Liu concluded.
