We were unable to attend the launch of the much anticipated second generation Isuzu mu-X but we have details on what its new in it.
Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSA) has introduced the second-generation Isuzu mu-X which will be available in dealerships from the first week of December 2021.
Based on the upcoming Isuzu D-MAX bakkie, the introduction of the new mu-X follows the success of the outgoing model which led the segment leader in Australia for seven years.
“The new mu-X is a massive step-up for Isuzu. It represents a shift in how customers will view vehicles in this segment in terms of ride quality, luxury, and technology. The new mu-X will not only attract more buyers in this segment but is likely to attract buyers from other segments as well,” says Craig Uren, Senior Vice President Isuzu Sales and Marketing.
Aimed at growing families who want a 7-seater, the new mu-X offers comfort and convenience features for up to seven adults and a cabin that is the largest in the segment.
Class Leading Safety Rating
The new mu-X is one of the safest vehicles on the road with a 5-star ANCAP rating and is jam packed with new safety and driver assistance features aimed at making long distance driving a breeze.
The most notable feature within Isuzu’s innovative safety systems is the addition of a centre airbag between the driver and the front passenger, a world first for the segment.
Engines. Derivatives. Paintwork
The mu-X will be available with a new version of Isuzu’s formidable 3-litre engine which produces 140kW of power. Matched to a fast shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox the new mu-X promises to deliver respectable fuel consumption thanks to Isuzu engineers focusing particularly on this aspect.
Four derivatives will be on offer to the South African market:

- 3.0 Ddi mu-X 4×4 LS
- 3.0 Ddi mu-X 4×2 LSE
- 3.0 Ddi mu-X 4×4 ONYX
The Isuzu mu-X will be available in eight paint colours, including five new colours are available; Splash White, Dolomite White, ONYX Black, Mercury Silver, Obsidian Gray, Red Spinel, Santos Brown, and Sapphire blue.
